News reader: Good evening, and welcome to the ten o’clock news. Here are the latest news stories. Scientists studying an active volcano in northern Iceland say that there might be an eruption any day now. Authorities have warned the people living near the mountain, and many people have left their homes. If the volcano erupts, it can destroy thousands of homes in the area, and hot rocks from the volcano might start a forest fire. This may cause even greater destruction.
News reporter: This is the midday news from New Orleans. As you see Hurricane Katrina has hit the city, causing massive damage. The hurricane also left a large part of the city flooded. Katrina’s wind speed was 220 kilometres per hour, so there was a lot of damage to the city. However, the worst effect of the hurricane was flooding. Because of the storm, huge amounts of water rushed into the city. As a result of this flooding, thousands of people lost their homes.
